Must-Have Gear for Fabulous Patios

Summer is here and it’s time to head outside!  If you’ve been thinking about turning your patio into a fabulous outdoor space, now’s the time.  By spending just a little time, money and effort, you can make your patio the place to be.  Here are some suggestions for gear that will turn your patio, deck or porch into an inviting outdoor living room.

Outdoor Fire Pits and Fireplaces

Fire pits make a great addition to any backyard, and there are many types available that can also be converted into an outdoor grill.  Cook steaks and hot dogs first, then after sit back, relax and enjoy the fire while roasting s’mores.  Fire pits come in a variety of styles – there are even some that can be converted to beverage coolers or planters when not in use.

If you want to make a bolder statement, install a wood or gas fireplace.  These can turn any patio into a stunning retreat.  There are even portable gas models suitable for city rooftops or terraces.

Cantilever Umbrella

Cantilever umbrellas hang to the side of the frame and have a curving arm only supported at one end.  Cantilever umbrellas can be adjusted 360 degrees, allowing you to position shade wherever needed.  They are great for hot tubs and to shade a dining area without worrying about a center pole.

Outdoor rugs

Weather resistant outdoor rugs are a great way to add color and style to your patio.  They are perfect for high-traffic areas and are easy to clean – you just have to hose them down and let them dry.

Patio Heaters

Extend the season of your patio by using patio heaters.  You will stay warm even on the coolest nights.  Patio heaters come in a range of styles from free-standing to tabletop and mounted varieties.  They burn a variety of fuels from gas, propane and electricity and many are designed to provide light as well as heat.

Weatherproof Accessories

No outdoor living room is complete without some decorative touches.  Consider adding outdoor lamps to add color and light.  Add throw pillows to brighten up your furniture and benches.  Baker’s racks and console tables made from aluminum, wrought iron and wicker make great entertaining and storage pieces.

Weatherproof paintings are also available to jazz up your outdoor space.  You can also decorate with oil lamps, candleholders and acrylic serving pieces.  Use your imagination, and let your personal style be your guide.

Set Up Conversation Spaces

Finally, set up your outdoor living room to promote conversation.  Place couches and chairs around a center table so everyone is facing each other.  This idea also works well if you have a fire pit.  You can also create intimate nooks with two small chairs and a console table, for when you want to have a private moment.

As the weather heats up you’ll want to enjoy your outdoor space more and more, so think about making these small changes to add character to your patio and make it a cozy and  inviting destination for your friends, family and neighbors.
